Summary:
Omeprazole, îhe selective inhibitor of gastric mucosal
proton pump is a substituted benzimidazole derivative.
It strongly inhibits the acid secretion of the stomach
and is frequently utilized in ulcers of stomach and duodenum,
reflux oesophagitis and Zollinger Ellison Syndrome. Omeprazole
is very sensitive to moisture, heat and pH changes, thus
not stable in acidic solution and degrades rapidly. The
physicochemical and pharmacological properties, pharmacokinetics
and bioavailability of omeprazole are discussed in this
review.
