AN ASPECT TO SYNTHESIS AND CHEMISTRY OF BIGINELLI COMPOUDS

Summary:
1,4-Dihydropyridines having calcium antagonistic activity have attract much synthetic attention over the past 20 years. In recent years, studies on 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-oxo (-thioxo)-pyrimidines which can be regarded as azo analogs of dihyropyridines have increased with the aim of obtaining more potent, more tissue selective compounds which have less side effects, and a longer duration of action than nifedipine accepted the prototype of 1,4-dihyropyridines. In this review, synthesis and chemical properties of 1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-2-oxo(-thioxo)-pyrimidines have been examined.
