Summary:
Transforming growth factor alpha(TGF?) is a single chain
polypeptide containing 50 aminoacids which was first detected
in the conditioned medium of murine 3T3 fibroblasts transformed
with the Moloney murine sarcoma virus.TGF? is a mitogenic
polypeptide that inhibits gactric acid secretion, protects
the gastric mucosa aganist acute injury and accelerates
ulcer healing. Also TGF? plays important roles in wound
healing in tissues such as cornea and skin. But its role
in neoplastic development is still unclear. The levels
of TGF? in many tissues were thought to be quite low,but
recents observations on self renewing epithelial tissues(e.g.
skin and gastrointestinal tract) have detected significant
concentrations of TGF?.The discovery,initial characterization,in
vivo activity,in vitro activity of TGF? and acterization,in
vivo activity,in vitro activity of TGF? and the effects
of its on the healing of gastric ulcers and cancer the
effects of its on the healing of gastric ulcers and cancer
will be discussed in this review.
