Summary:
Phenolic natural products such as flavonoids are known as potential antioxidant compounds. The aim of this study was isolation, structure elucidation and determination of radical scavenging properties of flavonoids which were quided by DPPH autographic assay from the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Verbascum salviifolium. From the titled plant, four flavonoid glucosides, apigenin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (1), luteolin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (2), luteolin-3’-O-ß-glucopyranoside (3), and chyysoeriol-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (4), were isolated. The structures of the compounds were esthablıshed on the basis of the spectroscopic evidence. Compounds 1-4 demonstrated scavenging properties toward the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in TLC autographic assays.
