Summary
New ester and amide derivatives of indole-2-carboxylic acid
(1-6) were synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro
antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The compounds 5
and 6 demonstrated scavenging effect against 2,2-diphenyl-
1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. These two compoundsshowed
excellent re ducing power at 200, 150, 100 and 50 μg/ ml
concentrations as compared to butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).
All tested compounds also exhibited more powerful Fe2+
chelating activity than Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).
With regard to antimicrobial properties, compound 2 was most
active derivative against Enterococcus faecalis and also
demonstrated significant activity against Candida albicans
with a MIC value of 8 μg/mL. Compounds 1, 3, 5 and 6 had
noticeable antifungal activities against C. albicans.
