Summary
:
Oximes are derived from the reaction of aldehydes or ketones
with hydroxylamine and show E/Z isomerism due to the carbon-nitrogen
double bond in their structure. Many drugs in the market
today have oxime or oxime ether groups in their structure
and these groups are frequently used for molecular modification
to develop new drugs and for synthesis of many functional
groups as starting compounds. Chemical and spectral properties
of these important groups have been reviewed in this article.
