Summary:
Oximes are derived from the reactions of aldehydes or
ketones and hydroxlamine hydrochloride and show geometric
(E/Z) isomerism due to the carbon-nitrogen double bond
in their structure Oximes and their O-alkylethers are
found in the structure of many drugs. These groups are
frequently used for molecular modification to develop
new drugs and for synthesis of many functional groups
as starting compounds. Pharmacological and stereochemical
properties and synthetic methods of oximes and oxime ethers
have been reviewed in this article.
