Summary:
Papaver somniferum L. (Papaveraceae) is cultivated in
Turkey for the production of Opium alkaloids in Bolvadin
Opium Alkaloids factory and fixed oils of the seeds are
consumed as edible oils in Anatolia. In this study, the
seeds oils were obtained from the seeds of eighty-three
samples collected from ten provinces of Turkey. Methyl
esters of fatty acids were prepared using Borontrifluoride-methanol
reagent. Their analyses were performed by capillary gas
chromatography system with Ultra I column using Helium
as the carrier gas. According to the results, the main
components of the oils have been determined as linoleic
and oleic acids.
